Winter Quarters and Iowa

Yesterday it really easily to get the family out of bed. The lure of breakfast tends to do that. Unfortunately, this morning we all slept in, and by the time we made it to the lobby, breakfast had been put away. Sigh.

We went to church in Council Bluffs. I wanted to at least make it to Sacrament meetings. It turns out that we hit stake conference instead. The talks on missionary work had many more positive steps that could be made than could be expected in Utah. The building is a twin of the Syracuse South stake center - mostly. The boys behaved themselves very well.

When then went back to Omaha and visited a nature reserve. There was a museum that had many hands on exhibits for the boys. Susie has done a good job explaining it. the boys were extremely cute in their costumes.

We then headed towards Nauvoo. I cannot describe how beautiful Iowa is. Everywhere you look there is rolling hills covered by farms, barns, and trees. It truly is amazing.

Unfortunately, the weather today has not been as good as we have had previously. Most of the day this meant there was patchy cloud cover. This only added to the beauty of the countryside. However, two hours from Nauvoo, it began to snow. The road become extremely slick, and combined with the gusting winds, the car began to slide around on the road. Susie and I decided to find a place to stop for the night.

We found a hotel room in Pella, Iowa. We quickly jumped into our swim suits and visited to pool. The pool was a little cool, but the water in the jacuzzi was excellent. We played in it for a while then decided to brave the pool. Braxton is still venturing forth a little beyond his abilities, and it makes me nervous, but he is progressing very fast. Tavin stuck to me like a limpet, he thought the water was too cool.

It is nice that we have planned a little leeway in our schedule.
